What does My StudyNZ do?

My StudyNZ is a powerful digital marketing tool that provides personalised study matches for international students exploring study in New Zealand.

Students enter their personal information and study intentions into My StudyNZ, which then suggests about 30 institutions or courses that closely match the students’ requirements.

It’s good practice in digital marketing for organisations to get to know their customers on an individual level and provide them with personalised information. Spotify, Netflix, Amazon – personalised matching is everywhere these days.

ENZ is bringing this advanced technology to international education with My StudyNZ.

How My StudyNZ helps students and institutions

My StudyNZ saves students from having to trawl through lots of institution profiles to find study options they’re interested in.

It’s especially helpful for students who want to study overseas but need help deciding what and where to study.

For institutions like yours, My StudyNZ provides highly-qualified leads – students who are already a good match with your institution or its courses.

By referring leads who are highly qualified, we hope your institution will be able to reduce the amount of time and effort it puts into converting students to apply to study.

Types of referrals

Referrals from My StudyNZ can come in the form of:

  • site traffic (website visits to your site)
  • direct enquiries to the email address you have listed in our admin platform.

You can view our referrals website traffic if you have a web analytics tool such as Google Analytics.

Email inquiries from My StudyNZ can be identified by ENZ branding and a header image saying ‘priority enquiry’ (see example here). It is important that your institution engages with these leads to make the most out of them, because they are qualified and much more warm, as they’ve taken the time to sign up to My StudyNZ and go through the matching process.

How MyStudyNZ works

profile

My StudyNZ’s uses a sophisticated algorithm to match students’ preferences with the information about institutions on our Study in New Zealand database.

All the information entered in your institution’s profile and the study offering on the Study in New Zealand administration platform is used by both My StudyNZ and the Study in New Zealand search tool.

matches

Study matches are based on the options that are closest to a student’s preferences. No institutions or courses are excluded from the matching process.

For tertiary-level students, the algorithm suggests about 30 courses that are closest to a student’s preferences.

For school students, it suggests about 30 institutions that are the closest matches.

The algorithm matches the student’s profile details with a study option according the student’s profile preferences.

shortlist

Once students have their study matches, they can:

  • shortlist them to explore later
  • change the information they’ve entered to see new matches.

Making the most of My StudyNZ

mystudynz invite reminder header

Since My StudyNZ and the search pages use the information entered into the Study in New Zealand administration platform, it’s important to ensure your profile on Study in New Zealand is correct and up-to-date so that the matches can be as accurate as possible.

ENZ carries out only two major data updates for all institutions each year, therefore we also offer providers access to manage their own information and institution details / study offering to all providers alike, so they can update our database directly themselves with the latest information.

To check that your institution’s profile and study offering are accurate and up-to-date, go to the Study in New Zealand search tool and search for your profile, which centralises all the study offering your institution has in its tabs: Campus, Courses, Scholarships.

You can learn how to create and update your institution’s profile, course information and other data here.

When courses don’t show up

My StudyNZ provides matches that are unique to each student, instead of what would be shown in a standard search.

If your institution’s courses aren’t showing up in match results that you think they could be a good fit for, it might be because:

  • the student’s personal and study intention information doesn’t match up with the specific details of the course
  • other institutions’ courses are a better match to the student’s information
  • the information about your institution or its courses on the Study in New Zealand  database is missing, incomplete or out of date.
Institutions are able to update this information themselves by logging in the institution’s admin platform.

What doesn’t My StudyNZ do?

My StudyNZ  is a matching tool, rather than a search tool.

It is particularly useful for students who are not yet sure what to study and need recommendations, rather than students who want to search for specific courses.

Students wanting to search for specific options can use the search pages on Study in New Zealand.

Making New Zealand the #1 choice

My StudyNZ showcases the latest best practices in database marketing – in other words, using customer data to deliver more personalised and effective messages to customers.

We’re using digital tools like My StudyNZ to:

  • make it easier for students to find the right courses
  • gain a deeper understanding of prospective students
  • motivate students to choose New Zealand over other countries
  • reduce costs for institutions by referring higher-quality students.

In time, My StudyNZ will enable you to have more control over the leads you receive. You could express a preference for leads from a specific country, or at a particular level of study.

It’s all part of using the latest technology to make your institution the #1 choice for students considering studying in New Zealand.
